Yeah, never thought I'd be on a boat. It's a big blue watery road. Poseidon, look at me.

Sorry, Arie lol
Eric is a very reserved guy. He likes spending a lot of time alone and his favorite thing to do while he's alone is play his flute. It's the only thing he has from his parents and he likes to think about them whenever he can. Although he can't remember them, he likes to think about what they would be like. Eric isn't very outgoing, but he steps up when he needs to.
Play his flute.
Play with his dog (when he's home).
Sail the open seas.
Walking barefoot in the sand.
Eating sea food.
The only thing Eric remembers about the day his parents died was being saved by a mermaid. They had been out to sea. Eric was born aboard their ship. His parents ran a private cruiseline. There were only ten cabins aboard their ship and they had a very small crew, but it was how they made their living, providing discount cruises to people throughout the world who wanted to cruise but could not afford the luxury liners. Eric loved the ocean and always had. But the night his parents died, they had been in an incredible storm and his parents had been out on the deck, making sure that all the guests got inside.
Eric had gone out to look for them, and they weren't anywhere to be found. He thought maybe they had gone back below, but when he tried to go back in, the door was locked and he couldn't. He went to find an alternate way in and was tossed overboard. He couldn't find his way to the surface. His parents had tought him how to swim practically from the time he was born, but the storm had disoriented him too much that he couldn't. He was pulled from the water and just as he was coming to, he noticed whoever it was who had saved him slip away. He was sure it was a mermaid, because who else would have been that far out to sea.
His parents' bodies were never recovered, but he went to live with his parents best friends, the Grimms. Quimby had been Eric's father's business partner and closest friend. His wife Carlotta was the ship's head chef. So, Eric knew them very well and stayed with them easily, even though he missed his parents. It is now 14 years later, and Eric has followed in his parents footsteps, going to the academy they went to when they were of age, and is studying to be a wizard they can be proud of.
Eric sat on the rocks on the shoreline of the lake in the first clearing off the west side of the castle. It was't the ocean, but it was the closest to the ocean he could come while he was at the academy. He liked attending WDA, but he missed his days at sea. Every holiday, the Grimms would dock the ship and he could spend time at the sea, the only place where he felt his parents' presence at all. He couldn't remember what they were like, considering he was only two when they died, but he knew he felt their spirits while he was on the water. During the summer, the Grimms took him out to sea and he felt even more connected to him.
But for now, the closest he could get to the open sea was the lake here in the 100 Acre Wood. He sat on one of the large boulders beside the calm water and played his flute. It was the only thing he had that belonged to his father. They didn't have any posessions, beyond the cruiseline, but he didn't inherit that until Quimby passed. But he didn't want that to happen. He loved Quimby as a father and wanted him around for a very long time. He wasn't about to wish time away by wanting to be captain of their cruiseline just yet if it meant losing Quimby.
The melody he played wasn't a sad one and he wasn't thinking about his parents. He was actually thinking about the mermaid who had pulled him from the water when he was two. There was a melody he played when he thought about her, and it always reminded him of her whenever he played it. It was a beautiful melody, and to some extent, he was sure it had lyrics, lyrics that conveyed longing and hopefulness, but he didn't know the lyrics. He only knew the melody. He knew it by heart and it was one of his favorite to play on the flute. It was something he could never tire of.
